Coaching Experiences

David Cohn has helped me to deepen my understanding of the challenges facing the family business owner.  Our work together has given me the confidence to incorporate family business consulting into my practice.  He has a wealth of tools and processes to share and is a wonderful teacher and mentor.  His unique experience as a second generation family business owner provides a special focus to his work. That background infuses his training and work with advisors and it is invaluable because it gives us a perspective that is critically important when working with family businesses.

"I have known David Cohn since 1994 when we were colleagues at a financial services firm.  He has been tremendously helpful to me as I make my transition from financial services (37 years) to full-time family business consultant.

I consider him my friend and my mentor and he has never hesitated to share his wisdom with me so that I can successfully grow my business.

I am excited about his 360 Practices Workshop and look forward to attending so that I can further enhance the skills I need to work with family owned businesses."

Client Experiences

David Cohn is a quality person, first and foremost.  Professionally David has an impressive resume and helped me solve a customer problem that had stalemated a law firm for several years. I brought David in to help the partners begin to transform their firm that was close to breaking up. His unique talents saved this firm and have helped them begin to build it to last for many years to come. I would use David professionally in a heart beat if I needed his unique talents again.

Perhaps though what would be most beneficial to a potential customer of David’s would be for me to describe him as a man. He and I have spent many hours discussing life including our families. He is truly a person who can be trusted.  He comes from a great family. As an entrepreneur the greatest characteristics I look for when I begin to build relationships with those that can help me and I them is the virtue of honesty. David has bucketfuls of that virtue. He has an unassuming demeanor but one should not look and make a judgment based upon that. David has a great deal of confidence in himself and his ability to help others make wise choices.

David has always treated me with a great deal of respect. He is one of the best listeners I have ever encountered; a trait that is in short supply in the world of those boasting to call themselves a “consultant”.

I guess the best way for me to sum David up is by the old proverb which says, “A friend is one who believes in you when you have ceased to believe in yourself.” Crossing paths with David has made me, my family and many customers better people.

This note is to thank you and let you know how much I appreciate all of your efforts in working with my family over the last five-plus years.  Oh my, have we come a long way – and it would not have happened without your expertise, patience and caring.

You have helped in ways that I am sure you do not realize.  By continuing to ask the right (and sometimes tough) questions, you have caused us to deal with real issues.  As you know, we (my family) have not always shined when it came to dealing with controversial issues.  But, with your guidance we have truly improved.  Through our many conversations, you have asked me insightful questions that caused me to ponder issues that, previously, I never even considered.  Similarly, the work you have done one-on-one with my mom and dad has caused many “Aha” moments.  And I will never forget the first Sibling Council meeting where you asked if my brother, sister and I had ever made decisions together; we looked at each other dumbfounded that we had not.  Since that day, we have learned to work together and to make decisions, even on tough, emotional issues.

Thank you for your wisdom, kindness and friendship.  I look forward to our continued journey together.
