John SimmeringJohn Simmering

John serves as President of Legasus Group. As a family business consultant, he brings together an array of resources and expertise to assist organizations, businesses and individuals in achieving their fullest potential, productivity and success.  John's background is extensive: family systems research, the effect of change on communication, team building, executive development, and addictions.

Previous to John's employment at Legasus Group, he envisioned and established Process Solutions Group, a division of a regional behavioral health system, where he served as Director for five years.  Process Solutions Group provided John the opportunity to hone both his business development and management skills as he led 30+ employees in the successful execution of a viable business entity providing development services to a broad array of organizations.

An avid reader and researcher, John and Dr. Larry Hays of Prairie View, developed an assessment tool called Capabilities Awareness Profile (CAP).  CAP is especially useful in identifying

growth challenges, potentials and assets of individual members of families and businesses.  Once these areas have been identified, a plan of action can be developed that will cultivate strengths that benefit both the individual and the organization.  John is also a fully certified trainer for the internationally renowned Process Communication Model (PCM®) and the BarOn EQ-i™ emotional intelligence assessment tools.

John also has a special interest in the challenges of succession and its effects on transitioning generations.  In 2000, Dr. Simmering and Hesston College professor, Dwight Roth, coauthored

an article addressing developmental tasks of older adults in the Journal of Aging and Identity, for which the National Council on Aging and the American Society on Aging honored them with the National Research Award.

John earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Oklahoma State University and completed his internship at the University of Florida in Gainesville. As a licensed psychologist, John maintained a clinical practice from 1985 to 2005. A native of Oklahoma, he has lived in Hesston, Kansas since 1995 with his wife Molly and three teenage children.
